Our Objectives

Our Objective: To Educate, Engage and Empower rural girls and boys.

Platinum Jubilee of the Province is a special occasion to have a Secretariat for Education to give direction to the secondary education apostolate of the Province. Now that a Secretariat for Education has been set up with a full-time Director and an Assistant to give direction and push to the Secondary education apostolate of the Province. The ERC is meant to coordinate the common activities of the Province schools and is expected to strive for better networking and collaboration among our schools. Jamshedpur Province is running 32 schools in the province with the help of collaborators who share our vision of education.

The Society of Jesus considers the education of the children/youth as an important means of forming the character of individuals and communicating human values. Fr  Arrupe and Fr Kolvenbach stated that the purpose of education is ‘to form men and women for others and with others.  Later the 4 Cs- Conscience, Competence, Compassion, and Commitment were added to the objectives of education. Our school should offer quality education which includes the all-round formation of the child. Our students should be prepared to meet the challenges of the future. Academic excellence is a fundamental dimension of Jesuit education. But it should be placed within the context of training for integral human excellence.

Our educational system should prepare students to face the many challenges that they confront in the world.  The world is facing serious challenges on account of millions of refugees and migrants, growing inequality, polarization based on religion or ethnicity, ecological crisis, digital culture of the young, and weakening of politics.

We are, therefore, challenged to prepare the young for the future. Our mission is to work together and with others in the service of reconciliation and justice. How can we better serve the mission of our schools? We are called upon to use our imagination and creativity without forgetting that our goal is to prepare individuals who can find meaning in their lives and contribute to the common good.

Our schools should be spaces for educational investigation, true laboratories in innovation, and know how to educate in a new way. Educating for justice means reaching out to the poorest. We must train our students to have a critical land intelligent conscience and be available for dialogue. Our schools should be places where a culture of safeguarding minors and vulnerable adults is practiced. The students should also show respect for our common home.

Leaders of our schools should have a clear vision. Without the vision, there is no leader. When there is a vision there is a focus, there are objectives and direction, and the end and means are in the right relationship. In terms of the Society of Jesus, the vision must be broad, global, and in accordance with the gospel. Nothing can limit the apostolic imagination of a leader. They must have a broad vision.

Leaders of our schools should understand the meaning of the Magis.  In Latin, it means more, not in terms of quantity but in terms of quality. The knowledge that we are made for more, to be better and better, to reach beyond what is, to what might be, has given many followers of Ignatius confidence to face without fear very difficult situations. Magis is possible when there is no fear. Instead of fear, there is confidence. One is ready to go to any difficult place.

Leaders of schools must be ready for evaluation. Improvement is possible only when one is ready for evaluation of his work.  An annual evaluation of schools is done so that improvements could be made.

Due to changes in family structure, mobility, and the influence of information and communication technologies, the way we look at the world is changing. The whole world has become a global village. (Vasudaiva  Kudumbhagam) the whole world is one family. Hence networking is essential today. Educate Magis a platform for global networking. It provides online support to build networking and collaboration among Jesuit educators around the world.

ERC schools strive to create India’s future leaders, people who not only respect their rich, cultural heritage but are also ready to lead their country into the future.  Our constant endeavor includes our sincere attempt to inculcate into young minds a civic sense and social responsibility.

As an educational organization, ERC encourages students to think beyond textbooks. Teachers promote social awareness by providing seminars for open discussion and debate on current issues like corporal punishment or physical punishment and other social issues.

ERC students have benefited from our commitment to give access to sports an integral part of our curriculum. Many children have realized their inner potential through the opportunities and training provided and have participated in inter school competitions.
