The Province Secretary for School Education (PSSE) heads the Education Commission and is appointed by the Provincial.
The functions of PSSE are as follows:
a) To assist the Provincial in all matters connected with educational work and the Jesuit personnel engaged in-school educational activities and help periodically in formulating or revising the educational policies of the province.
b) To be a consultant to the Provincial and his Consultors regarding matters related to our schools, especially in identifying men to head the institutions and help solving school- specific issues.
c) To participate in the GBs of the Registered Societies as a special invitee when called upon to do so.
d) Under the direction of the Provincial, to supervise and assist the institutions in their common works and co-ordinate their common activities.
e) To envisage and implement the ongoing training programmes for the Staff and Jesuits.
f) To mobilise resources for various training programs on Jesuit/Ignatian pedagogy and the characteristics of Jesuit education for school leaders and teachers.
g) To monitor and assess the progress of various programmes aimed to realise the goals of Jesuit education with the assistance of his team.
h) To maintain all relevant records and data about the province educational institutions.
i) To inspire, motivate, initiate new ventures and empower Jesuits in the institutions to launch new initiatives into new frontiers hitherto unexplored in education.
j) To hold meetings of the Education Commission at regular intervals.
k) To report annually to the Superior General of the Society of Jesus on the educational work and institutions of the province and, as often as he may be required, to keep the Provincial abreast of the new developments or alert him on the possible unforeseen dangers /pitfalls.
l) To act as liaison with the Government and educational bodies on behalf of province institutions.
m) To collaborate with other PSSEs in the Assistancy and offer/request the desired assistance whenever necessary.
n) To represent the Province and its educational work in the JEASA at the Assistancy level and attend its Annual Meetings;
o) To assist the JEASA Secretary in managing the Association and keep him informed of all the activities, developments and plans concerning the province’s educational work.
